Touchwood Appalachian are available for Displays and Workshops

for performances

Indoors: a wooden floor with some "give" is ideal. Minimum dance area should, if possible, be 12 ft square - although we have managed on less, it obviously limits us. For performances outside we have our own stage - remember this does take five minutes or so to set up! The stage measures 4.3m (w) by 3.7m (d) (14ft x 12ft) and can be used indoors or out.

PA is required for announcements - particularly outside - and a power source for musicians' PA is helpful but not essential.

A room with a wooden floor with some "give" is needed, if at all possible - dancing on concrete can do terrible things to knees and spines!

We use PA for musicians and the dance leader for most workshops - a power socket should be available.

- instructions to dancers

Shoes: no clogs and please no taps! (Stick tape over your taps if you have nothing else to dance in - taps are too noisy for workshops and can damage floors.) Hard shoes with smooth soles are best (eg "character" shoes). Trainers or sandals should be avoided.

There is a compulsory warm-up before each workshop, which is vital to prevent possible serious injury - it is therefore important that people are encouraged to arrive on time.
